Senator Warner has launched a contest to pick a cover photo of Virginia for his Facebook page by asking for submissions from his more than 16,500 followers. Facebook, the popular social media tool, will be transitioning all pages to their new Timeline format on Friday, March 30. As part of the new format, all pages must include a large “cover photo.”

Senator Warner has reached out on Facebook and Twitter to ask for submissions of original photos from across the Commonwealth. Followers have so far submitted more than 150 photos, ranging from images of Charlottesville, to Blue Grass, to the Mount Vernon Trail in Arlington.

“I believe that social media is a invaluable tool for connecting with people from all walks of life and all over Virginia,” Senator Warner said. “And what better way to use it than to celebrate the diverse beauty of our Commonwealth?”

Senator Warner, a co-founder of the wireless company Nextel and technology investor, has been at the forefront of adopting social media as a form of communication with constituents. The Senator frequently holds Twitter and video town halls, and posts updates, photos and videos from his travels across Virginia on his Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube pages. Currently, he has more than 25,000 followers on Twitter and his 257 videos on YouTube have been viewed more than 83,000 times.

Senator Warner’s office will pick the top three photos to display throughout the summer on Facebook, and open another contest for photos of Virginia during the fall.
