Sen. Warner Files Legislation to Cut $806M From Outdated or Duplicative Programs

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) filed legislation today that would cancel more than $800 million in annual spending on 17 outdated, ineffective or duplicative programs in six federal agencies. These programs have been recommended for termination by the Office of Management and Budget during both the Bush and Obama administrations, yet Congress has so far refused to act on the OMB recommendations.
WASHINGTON. D.C. –- U.S. Senator Mark R. Warner (D-VA), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, has successfully amended the FY2011 Budget Resolution to require performance and accountability measurements to more closely monitor stimulus spending and to track the progress of the healthcare reform initiative.
Senator Warner released this statement following today’s 53-46 vote rejecting a bipartisan commission that would have made recommendations to Congress on federal budget and entitlement reforms.

The bipartisan Task Force will examine the federal government’s management framework, recommend ways to improve the efficiency of federal programs and services, and identify potential taxpayer savings.
