WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate unanimously adopted a resolution led by U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark R. Warner, and co-sponsored by every member of the Senate, commending U.S. Capitol Police Officers, the Alexandria Police Department, and first responders for their heroism during the attack on Members of Congress, their staff, and others at an Alexandria park who were practicing for a Congressional baseball game for charity. The resolution also recognizes the survivors of the shooting and offers support as they continue to recover from the attack.

“Without the quick response from the Capitol Police and the Alexandria Police Department, the outrageous attack on our Congressional colleagues and their staffs could have been much worse. This resolution serves to honor their remarkable heroism and self-sacrifice in the face of danger and recognize the daily protection law enforcement officials provide communities across the country,” Kaine said.

“It is hard to overstate the bravery shown by Capitol Police officers and the Alexandria Police Department during yesterday’s terrible shooting. Without hesitation, these officers sprung to action in the most unimaginable of events to save lives and safeguard the public. This resolution is a public acknowledgement of their heroism and courageousness through this horrific act, and honors the dedication and service of all of our nation’s first responders,” Warner said.
