Senator Warner did not attend a town hall meeting held late today in Norfolk by Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), who hoped to draw attention to the impending threat of deep defense cuts if Congress fails to address the nation’s fiscal challenges.

The three Republican senators warn that so-called sequester cuts required because the bipartisan House/Senate “supercommittee” failed to agree on spending cuts last fall should be blocked because it could harm America’s national security.

Senator Warner told Virginia reporters that no one wants to see the sequester cuts happen, but it was both parties in both houses of Congress who designed the sequester in an effort to force the House and Senate to sit-down and find common ground on deficits and debt.
