Sen. Warner issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strke down the Defense of Marriage Act:

“I applaud the Supreme Court for striking down the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act.  In line with the amicus brief I joined many of my colleagues in submitting to the Court, the Court’s majority properly concluded there is no legitimate purpose for according one marriage less respect and less dignity than another. Although I believe the Court could have gone further in affirming the principle of marriage equality in its two decisions today, this is a proud moment for everyone who believes in equal treatment under federal law.”
