Bringing efficiency to the budget process is something that Senator Warner does well – his work as Governor during the 2005 budget mess helped Virginia turn a shortfall into a surplus and resulted in Virginia being named the best managed state in the nation.

As Senator, he will work with his colleagues and the administration to bring similar efficiency measures to the federal budget process.

During his Senate Budget Committee hearing yesterday, Senator Warner asked OMB Director Peter Orszag how the administration is looking to use their Chief Information, Performance, and Technology Officers to ensure efficiency and accountability with the budget, and said that this is an issue he’d like to see the committee spend more time on:

"We may have policy differences. We may have, I think, equally both sides of the aisle have concerns about some of the deficits we're looking at.

"But how we truly look at spending dollars more efficiently, I think, would be the subject of… a great deal of interest."
