Supporting Springfield as next FBI campus

Senator Warner joined Sen. Kaine, Gov.-elect McAuliffe, Reps. Connolly, Moran and Wolf, and a variety of state and local officials to announce his support for the FBI relocating its headquarters to a site near the Springfield Interchange in Fairfax County.
Transparency is critical to our democracy, especially for a federal government that spent about $3.5 trillion last year. Policymakers and taxpayers should be able to quickly answer some basic questions about federal spending, like how much did we spend, and who received our money?
Sen. Mark Warner and a bipartisan group of lawmakers in Washington introduced legislation last week to exempt volunteer first responders, including fire-and-rescue volunteers in Pittsylvania County, from the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance mandate.
Skyping with Charlottesville High School

Senator Warner spent some time today skyping with Charlottesville High School students about immigration reform. CHS’s Global Citizenship Class has been studying immigration reform using a lesson plan called “Speak Up for Immigration,” which was developed by Senator Warner and the University of Virginia’s education school.
Today, Senator Mark Warner spoke with House and Senate staffers who are members of the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association (CHSA).
My hope is this compromise allows us to step away from the irrational harm of sequestration, which hits Virginia harder than any other state. This is a productive step forward that avoids another shutdown and allows the government to operate with more predictability over the short term.

Computer science is a top-paying college degree and computer programming jobs are growing at twice the national average, but 9 out of 10 schools don’t offer computer programming classes.
Before Things Get Too Crazy

Before the December holiday season gets into full swing, and as Congress returns for its last work period of the year, I wanted to provide you with a quick update on our recent efforts to strengthen Virginia’s economic recovery and improve Washington’s fiscal accountability to taxpayers.
Senator Warner sent a letter raising concerns about the latest delay in the Metro’s Silver Line project. The Silver Line will eventually connect Loudoun, Fairfax, and Arlington counties with Dulles Airport and downtown DC via rapid-transit public transportation.
In support of Southside Virginia’s textile industry and its workers, Senator Mark Warner organized a bipartisan group of his Senate colleagues in sending a letter to President Obama urging additional flexibility in country-of-origin rules during this weekend’s upcoming international trade talks in Singapore.
