BIG STONE GAP — Compromise is a word rarely uttered by politicians these days, but it is one that U.S. Sen. Mark Warner believes will solve the
nation’s economic woes.

Finding that middle ground will likely be a struggle, though, since Democrats and Republicans have entrenched themselves in a tug-of-war involving almost every issue.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — U.S. Senator Mark Warner, D-Va., went underground on Thursday to shed some light on the nation’s need for a National Energy Policy, more success on job creation and dramatic action on the U.S. debt and deficit crisis.

Senator Warner today began a three day trip through Southwest Virginia with a stop at the Lee County Chamber of Commerce in Jonesville. He spoke to about 85 people and answered questions relating to several of the issues he's done a lot of work on, including energy, education, and the fiscal cliff.

The U.S. Navy recently honored Norfolk native Paul Legg for heroic actions that saved the lives of 33 people in 1956. Recognizing the signs of a gasoline leak on board his reconnaissance plane, Legg shrewdly directed passengers to limit, isolate, and then remove the spreading fumes, which could easily have caused a fatal explosion.

On the first anniversary of America’s first-ever credit rating downgrade, Senator Warner told CNN’s Erin Burnett that he continues to work within the Senate to design a broad, bipartisan roadmap to reduce the national debt.

Senator Warner is asking the head of the Federal Aviation Administration for a full accounting of a potentially catastrophic “near miss” incident earlier this week at Northern Virginia’s Reagan Washington Airport.
