The Senate has unanimously adopted Senator Warner’s bipartisan legislation requiring federal agencies to identify their top priorities, publicly report program results, and identify ineffective and overlapping federal programs for possible consolidation or elimination.

Sen. Warner and Georgia GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss led an organized series of back-to-back floor speeches today from a bipartisan group of 18 Senators calling for comprehensive tax reform and deficit/debt reduction by the end of next year. That’s a more aggressive timeline than anyone else in Washington, including the White House, has talked about to date.
Senator Warner penned an op-ed in the Washington Post on Monday December 13, 2010 that argues for a regulatory "pay as you go" system. Senator Warner is drafting legislation that would require federal agencies to identify and eliminate one existing regulation for each new regulation they want to add.
Senator Warner says he likely will vote for the tax cut compromise negotiated between the White House and congressional Republicans, but he tells FOX News’ Neil Cavuto that he is leading a bipartisan group of about 20 Senators on a proposal to add provisions that will trigger a broad deficit-reduction and tax reform plan next year.
As many of you know the EPA proposed a set of regulatory proposals under the Clean Air Act that seeks to regulate emissions from boilers, process heaters, and certain solid waste incinerators. I want to provide you an update on Senator Warner’s engagement on this issue.
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced today that no offshore oil drilling will be allowed off the coast of Virginia for at least the next seven years. This announcement reversed an earlier Obama administration decision to open certain parts of the American coastline to drilling, including off the Atlantic Coast of Virginia.

Senator Warner hosted our first Virginia Women’s Conference on Nov. 22 in Richmond with the theme A Financial Roadmap for Smart Money Decisions. AARP, Dominion, and Genworth Financial co-sponsored the conference.
Virginia’s governor, Sen. Warner and other members of the congressional delegation met for more than an one hour today with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and afterwards the Virginians were cautiously optimistic about preserving significant pieces of Joint Forces Command in Hampton Roads.
Yesterday, Senator Warner announced that he will join Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) as a co-chair of the Senate India Caucus in January. Senator Warner will take the place of Senator Chris Dodd, who is retiring at the end of the year.
