Senator Warner has launched a contest to pick a cover photo of Virginia for his Facebook page by asking for submissions from his more than 16,500 followers. Facebook, the popular social media tool, will be transitioning all pages to their new Timeline format on Friday, March 30. As part of the new format, all pages must include a large “cover photo.”
For many in the Obama administration and on Capitol Hill, India is the perfect ally for the difficult military and strategic challenges that lie ahead in South Asia after the Afghanistan War. As President Obama prepares to begin drawing down U.S. troops in Afghanistan next year, India is now seen as the only power that is both stable and reliably committed to maintaining peace in the region.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Senator Mark Warner convened the hearing aboard the USS Kearsarge (the first hearing aboard a ship in more than 50 years!) to learn more about energy conservation efforts in the armed forces.
A gasoline-powered generator can supply electricity to a remote U.S. Marine outpost in Afghanistan, powering everything from laptops to communications equipment. And the noise from that generator can be a dead giveaway to Taliban forces searching for Americans. So when Marines tout the effectiveness of quiet, solar-powered generators, it's not because they feel all warm and fuzzy about Earth Day.
For far too long, Washington has added laws, mandates, and programs -- but rarely does it look back to see if those initiatives still make sense. I came to Washington as a former CEO and governor and thought that I could apply those experiences to the federal government and produce positive results. But it's proven to be a lot harder than I expected, especially on some very obvious problems.

Yesterday, Senator Warner met with Virginia members of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) – the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.
