Sen. Warner on Offshore Leasing Announcement

Sen. Warner released the following statement today on the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s decision not to allow energy exploration in the Atlantic Ocean in its 2017-2022 offshore leasing plan.
Sen. Warner indicated he would have supported lifting the oil export ban if it was part of a more comprehensive energy package.

A bipartisan group of Senators comprising the Southern Atlantic delegation is pushing for offshore energy legislation that allows Atlantic coastal states to share in the revenue from energy resources developed offshore.
Today, Sens. Warner and Kaine along with 19 other Senators sent a letter calling on the Senate Appropriations Committee to support robust investment for a Safe Transportation of Energy Products program.

The legislation would expand American offshore energy production with a revised five-year leasing plan, and provide revenue sharing
