Sen. Warner on Confirmation of Jay Clayton for SEC Chairman

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released the below statement after the Senate voted 61-37 to confirm Jay Clayton as Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC):

“As head of the SEC, Mr. Clayton has publicly and privately committed to robustly enforce SEC rules against insider trading, adopt policies to monitor suspicious market activity, support equity market structure reform, and make cybersecurity a priority. As the top cop patrolling the securities markets, he has the vital responsibility of protecting investors against fraud while preserving a system that fosters capital formation and ensures fair and efficient markets. I congratulate him on his confirmation and  look forward to holding him accountable for protecting consumers as well as aggressively pursuing and punishing Wall Street misbehavior.”
