WASHINGTON – Today the Senate voted on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S.3110, American Energy and Conservation Act. The legislation, which would provide for some revenue sharing for states as a result of onshore and offshore energy production, failed to garner the necessary votes to move forward.

“A fair revenue sharing agreement has always been a must-have if Virginia’s coast is to be open to energy development – the key word being ‘fair.’ I voted against advancing this legislation because it would unfairly cap Virginia’s revenue share.

“Additionally, I’ve always said that offshore exploration must be contingent on not interfering with the critical military and federal assets in the region, and the Navy continues to express serious reservations about allowing drilling off the Virginia coast.”
