WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner and Representative Tom Perriello today announced that a project in Danville has been selected to receive $2.28 million for infrastructure improvements to support local economic development. The Cane Creek Centre Industrial Park, a 900-acre industrial, has been awarded funds by the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Department of Commerce estimates the project will create 500 jobs and leverage $27 million in private investment.

“This $2.3 million investment will encourage the growth of local businesses and create jobs in Danville,” said Senator Webb. “Since coming to the Senate, I have focused on restoring jobs and economic growth throughout Virginia, particularly in Southside and Southwest Virginia, which have seen major losses of manufacturing jobs.”

“This targeted investment into the Cane Creek Centre industrial park will help address much-needed improvements, create new jobs and attract new investments into the Danville/Pittsylvania County region,” said Senator Warner. “This community has worked hard to reposition itself in a changing and challenging economy, and I am pleased we are able to provide the resources for this project.”

“This is exactly the kind of transformative investment that I have been fighting for in Congress. Not only will it put Virginians back to work immediately prepping these lots, but it lays the foundation for long-term economic growth. This is a huge win for the Danville-Pittsylvania region and a great example of federal investment in infrastructure that spurs private-sector job creation,” said Rep. Perriello.

The funding is allocated for infrastructure improvements, both for the development of new industry and to accommodate growth of existing businesses.
