WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith announced long-anticipated funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Dickenson County, Virginia to offset construction costs for the new Ridgeview High School. Dickenson County will receive at least $17 million as part of the three-state Army Corps flood control project on the Levisa and Tug Forks and Upper Cumberland River. The funding comes from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers fund for ongoing infrastructure projects that was signed into law in the Fiscal Year 2016 omnibus.

“The announcement of funding for Dickenson County is overdue and most welcome,” said Warner, Kaine & Griffith. “The three of us have gotten briefings, written letters, and made personal calls on this one – for a few years running. This project vastly reduces flood risk, creates jobs and provides for modern new educational facilities. There is more to do, but this is a huge step forward.”

Warner, Kaine and Griffith wrote to the leadership of the Army Corps in January 2016 to advocate for funding of this project. In addition to the funds for Dickenson County, the Army Corps also announced $350,000 in funding to design and build a wastewater infrastructure project in Lee County.
