WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released the following statement in response to the Federal Transit Administration announcement it will withhold millions in funding for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA):

“Passing legislation creating the Metro Safety Commission is absolutely critical, and I call on Virginia lawmakers to complete their work on this legislation as quickly as possible.  We must work together to avoid any further disruption in federal funds for a system which serves  the entire region. Improving safety and restoring passenger confidence requires hard, steady work, and I strongly urge Mr. Wiedefeld and WMATA to stay on top of it.”
