Missed opportunity

Nov 22 2011

The inability of the Congressional supercommittee to meet its deadline identifying $1.2 trillion in debt reduction is both disappointing and frustrating.

"Unless you can help the politicians get out of their foxholes, we're not going to get this stuff done," Senator Warner told about 50 students at a Virginia Commonwealth University town hall in Richmond.

Warner told the students that the solution to the nation's debt and deficit problem will require both spending cuts and revenue increases. He said a credible plan must cut $4 trillion from the deficit over the next 10 years.

"This shouldn't be that hard," Senator Warner said. "This is not putting a man on the moon, or defeating communism or starting the civil rights movement."
