Senator Warner highlighted today’s unveiling of a first-ever broadband availability map for Virginia, available online at http://www.otpba.vi.virginia.gov/

The map is an outgrowth of work done by the Virginia Broadband Roundtable, co-chaired by Senator Warner and Aneesh Chopra, the former Virginia Technology Secretary who’s been nominated by President Obama to serve as the nation’s first Chief Technology Officer.

“This broadband map is a great resource that will give policy makers, local government leaders, and service providers a more detailed picture of broadband coverage in Virginia as they work to build-out ‘last-mile’ broadband in their communities,” Senator Warner said. “I hope this map will help us deploy resources to areas with the greatest need, particularly our rural areas.”

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine is expected to convene a new Governor’s Broadband Advisory Council in time to advise him on the most effective usage of potential broadband funding from the stimulus act.
