Has served as acting U.S. Attorney for Va.’s Eastern District since 2013

May 29 2015

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Sens. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) sent a letter to President Obama recommending Dana J. Boente to fill the vacancy of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Dana has served as acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia since September 2013. Prior to that, he served as interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 2012.

Boente was unanimously rated “highly recommended” by a panel of attorneys from across the Commonwealth selected by Sens. Warner and Kaine to interview all candidates who applied for the position. The Eastern District of Virginia has offices in Alexandria, Newport News, Norfolk, and Richmond.

“Dana’s long-time service has provided him with extensive experience in national security matters, public corruption, and securities and financial fraud. In New Orleans, he successfully led the U.S. Attorney’s Office through an important time of transition. In addition, as acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Dana has shown himself to be a capable manager of a fast-paced and dynamic office of well over 100 prosecutors,” the Senators wrote.
