Warner Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act

Bipartisan compromise unanimously approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Apr 14 2015

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) released a statement after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, 19-0. Under the bipartisan compromise approved today, after a final deal is reached between Iran and P5+1 negotiators and submitted to Congress, Congress would have 30 days to hold hearings and approve, disapprove, or take no action on giving Iran relief from Congressionally-imposed sanctions.

"The bipartisan compromise that passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on a unanimous vote contains new, important provisions that will result in a thoughtful and orderly review of any potential deal with Iran," said Sen. Warner. "I join my colleagues in agreeing that this improved bill will put in place an appropriate process for Congress to exercise its constitutional responsibility to review a final agreement."
