Priorities

We drove up to Natural Tunnel State Park in Duffield for a town hall meeting with local elected officials from Scott and Lee Counties, where Senator Warner got a chance to speak with county supervisors, planning commissioniers, economic development officials, and school board members.

Senator Warner navigated through the details of the economic recovery package.

Virginia stands to receive a combined $100 million to extend clean drinking water supplies to rural areas. The Bristol region alone stands to receive about $30 million in transportation funds to repair deficient bridges, culverts, and repaving projects. The region also stands to receive significant stimulus funds for public education and health care.

In addition, the Omnibus budget approved by Congress allocates nearly $4 million for clean energy research, including work on clean coal technology, being spearheaded by Virginia Tech.

Senator Warner said that local governments should pursue stimulus funds for broadband, health care information technology, and energy conservation, such as weatherization and smart grid technologies.

"We can help make sure you get your fair share," he said.
