White House Tour Information
*Important Coronavirus Update*
Out of an abundance of caution, White House tours have been temporarily suspended. This temporary action is being taken given evolving COVID-19 coronavirus concerns. At this time, it is unclear when the White House will resume normal tour operations. Therefore, all tours of the White House in the immediate future are canceled. We understand this is a frustrating outcome for those who have already made plans to travel to DC and appreciate your understanding.

Requesting a White House Tour
**Please review the below information carefully, as the White House has recently implemented a new process for tour requests**
As one of our nation’s most prized and historic landmarks, the White House receives an incredibly high volume of requests to tour. In order to properly submit a request, please be sure to follow the instructions below.

WHEN ARE TOURS OFFERED?
The White House offers tours to the public Tuesday – Saturday each week. The White House assigns tour times to groups according to the following schedule:
- Tuesday – Thursday: Tours are offered throughout the morning, beginning at 7:30 AM and concluding with the 11:00 AM tour.
- Friday – Saturday: Tours are offered into the early afternoon, beginning at 7:30 AM and concluding with the 1:30 PM tour.
All tours are subject to last-minute cancellation, pending changes to the White House schedule.
HOW TO REQUEST A TOUR
Tour requests receive final approval by the White House, on a first-come, first-served basis. Our office assists with this process by submitting requests to the White House on constituents’ behalf.
In order to request a tour of the White House, please send the following information to email@example.com.
- Size of the group looking to tour*
- The email address to which you’d like tour updates sent
- 3 dates of preference for your tour
- Please note that we can never request dates within 3 weeks of today – the White House will not accept these requests. Additionally, we cannot request dates further out than 3 months.
*Individuals cannot be added after a request has been submitted. If there are individuals who may join the group on the tour, include them in your count. Please note that the White House will only accept requests from groups 100 guests or smaller.
Once your request has been submitted to the White House by our office, you will receive an email from the White House. This email will contain a secure RSVP link. Upon receipt of that email, the White House gives you 7 calendar days to upload your group’s personal information via the secure link. If you have not uploaded your group’s information within that period, the White House releases your request. Additional instructions will be emailed to you at this stage.
A final confirmation or denial notice will be sent to you by the White House approximately 14 days prior to your requested date. Due to the fluid nature of the White House’s schedule, they are often unable to finalize requests before this point.
WHO CAN TOUR?
All members of the public, regardless of age, are welcome to request a tour of the White House. US citizens 18 years of age and older must have a valid, government-issued ID that can be presented day-of-tour. Foreign nationals of all ages must have a valid passport that can be presented day-of-tour.
ADDITIONAL INFO – WHAT TO BRING? WHERE TO GO?
Tours of the White House are self-guided, and typically last about 45 minutes in duration.
The White House strongly encourages the use of public transportation, as street parking is not available near the White House.
The closest Metro stations to the White House are Federal Triangle (on the blue, orange, and silver lines), Metro Center (blue, orange, silver, and red lines), McPherson Square (blue, orange, and silver lines), and Gallery Place-Chinatown (green and yellow lines).
Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time – this will help facilitate check-in and security screening.
Dress for the weather – guests will be standing outside before their tour.
Eat a snack and hydrate prior to arrival – guests are prohibited from bringing outside food and drink into the White House. Additionally, there are no restrooms available upon entering the White House.
- Video cameras, cameras with detachable lenses, tablets, iPads, tripods, monopods, and camera sticks.
- Bags of any kind (handbags, purses, book bags, and backpacks).
- Strollers and diaper bags
- Food, liquids, aerosols, tobacco products, personal grooming items (i.e. makeup, lotion, etc.)
- Any pointed object, guns, ammunition, fireworks, electric stun guns, mace, martial arts weapons/devices, toy weapons or knives of any kind
- Smartphones and cameras with compact lenses.
- Medical bags are accepted but must be declared upon arrival.
Please note that there are no storage facilities available on the White House complex. Individuals who arrive with prohibited items will be turned away.
