Press Releases

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA), Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement on President-Elect Donald J. Trump’s selection of former Sen. Dan Coats as Director of National Intelligence (DNI):

“I congratulate Senator Coats on his nomination as Director of National Intelligence. We have worked together for a number of  years as colleagues on the Intelligence Committee. I know he shares a deep respect for our intelligence professionals as well as an understanding of the important oversight role provided by Congress, and his perspective as a former ambassador to Germany gives him a realistic understanding of Russia’s history of nefarious activities. The mission of our intelligence services is to speak truth to power, and Senator Coats is a worthy selection to lead our nation’s intelligence community.”
